The MASTER'S IN APPLIED ANALYTICS (MAA) prepares graduates to go beyond data management and governance and develop the data analytics skills necessary to address a wide range of operational contexts.
Through a grounding in statistical analysis and data applications, students learn to find critical patterns within datasets, create descriptive data summaries and visualizations, and effectively communicate results. Students refine their skills through team projects and a range of problem-solving contexts, from urban analytics, urban simulation and geodemographics, to predictive analytics and population health, sustainability analytics, and epidemiology.
Students complete the MAA in two years, taking two course units per semester in Fall, Spring and Summer terms for a total of 12 course units.

Learn essential career skills
- Demonstrate solid understanding of database design, schemas, modeling, validation, cleansing, preparation, and end-user experience
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of contemporary quantitative tools, analysis methods, data model design, and trend analysis
- Discriminate when to use specific tools and methods appropriately; and demonstrate ability to plan, design, and create models for managerial decision making
- Prepare, transform, and load large sets of data ("big data"); demonstrate the ability to summarize data sets into manageable aggregate datasets to be used in actionable intelligence and key performance indicators.
- Show mastery of tools and ability to select appropriate predictive and stochastic modeling methods for effective decision making and planning
- Show mastery of contemporary tools including programming languages and proprietary application languages for the development and transformation of functional and informative data
- Demonstrate knowledge of ethical treatment of data including the application of ethics and judgement to data analysis and interpretation; and regulatory requirements regarding privacy, confidentiality, and governance
